About the author
Karina Clay is a Louisiana-born author living in North Carolina. She writes contemporary family fiction about family, love, faith, and the people who spend so much time caring for everyone else that they sometimes lose sight of themselves.
As a mother and grandmother, Karina understands how easily love and responsibility can become tangled together. Her writing asks honest questions about what it means to support the people we love while still making room for our own needs, choices, and dreams.
She is the creator of the Rina Williams Family Series, a collection of connected stories about family, healing, second chances, and the people everyone leans on.
I started writing this series after listening to so many women talk about their families and realizing how much we had in common.
We love our children. We want to be there for them. But somewhere along the way, being there can turn into always being available. We answer every call. We fix the problems. We give the advice. And because we rarely say no, the people we love can begin to believe we will always be there to make things better.
I had to recognize that in my own life.
One day, instead of trying to fix my children’s problems, I started saying, “Do what you think is best for you.”
At first, they didn’t understand. But I did.
It wasn’t me loving them any less. It was me realizing that I couldn’t keep carrying problems that belonged to them. I needed them to trust their own decisions, find their own answers, and know they could stand on their own.
Because one day, I won’t be here to fix it, show up, or be the only person they turn to for advice.
That realization stayed with me.
And eventually, it became a story. Then that story became a family.
The Rina Williams Family Series is about the people everyone leans on. Each book tells that story through someone different, because being the person everyone depends on doesn’t look the same for everybody.
Sometimes love means showing up.
And sometimes love means stepping back and letting the people you love learn that they can stand, too.

The Rina Williams Family Series
At forty-nine, Rina Williams is the woman everybody needs, and the one no one thinks to ask about. A nurse in Raleigh, a mother of three grown children, a devoted daughter, and a steady best friend, Rina has spent her whole life holding everyone else together. She shows up. She fixes it. She's always fine, until her body finally forces her to stop, and she's left facing a question she's been outrunning for years: if she isn't the woman everybody needs, then who is she?
Rina has built a quiet, careful life around raising her children and taking care of everyone but herself. Then a steady Georgia contractor named Nathan Reed walks into a hardware store, and without meaning to, into her life. Nathan doesn't love her with grand gestures. He loves her with lists, with showing up, with paying attention to the things she doesn't say out loud. And the closer he gets, the more Rina has to face how hard it is to let someone be there for her.
Letting someone take care of her should be the easy part. For Rina, it may be the hardest thing she's ever done. The Woman Everybody Needed is a warm, Louisiana-rooted story about family, faith, grief, second chances, and learning to receive love after a lifetime spent giving it away.
Trina Baptiste has spent her life holding everyone else together. She owns Baptiste Beauty House in Lafayette, Louisiana, where women come for more than hair. They come for truth, comfort, laughter, and a chair that feels like home.
But when the future of her salon is threatened, her mother’s health becomes harder to ignore, and her daughter begins making choices of her own, Trina is forced to face the truth she has avoided for years.
Holding everyone together has cost her more than she wants to admit.
In The Woman Who Held Everyone , Karina Clay returns to the Rina Williams Family Series with a story about family, friendship, legacy, love, and the quiet strength it takes to finally let yourself be held.
Rina’s story began the journey. Trina’s story continues it.
